I was trying to create a demo platform for publishing scholarly journals of institutions under the University of Calicut using the Open Journal System (OJS). It is a demo proposal of my M.Phil thesis entitled ‘Design and Development of an Open-Access Portal for the Scholarly Journals of Institutions under Calicut University’.<\/b>\u00a0unfortunately, the installation was not successful, as the latest version of OJS met with several dependencies. after frequent tries, I approached my Tech-guru\u00a0Dr. Vimal Kumar<\/a> sir. He too tried but the result was the same as what I received. As he is a man with a wide range network of both library and non-library professionals all over the world, he brought me into contact with Mr.\u00a0Jeremiah Kellogg\u00a0<\/a><\/span>Library Faculty, Systems,\u00a0Eastern Oregon University<\/a>\u00a0Library. who helped me creating a VirtualBox image of OJS on Debian OS. and troubleshot the issues that I faced while installing on my PC. I am so grateful to both Dr. Vimal Kumar sir and Mr. Jeremiah Kellogg.<\/span><\/p>\n

Step by step of Installing OJS\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Install LAMP Stack<\/p>\n

LAMP Stack on\u00a0Debian<\/a><\/p>\n

LAMP Stack on\u00a0Ubuntu<\/a><\/p>\n

After installing LAMP Stack, do the following<\/p>\n

sudo systemctl reload apache2 && sudo systemctl restart apache2<\/span><\/b><\/pre>\n
Create a directory under webroot of apache, I name the directory as ojs<\/p>\n
sudo mkdir \/var\/www\/html\/ojs<\/span><\/b><\/pre>\n
Navigate to ojs directory<\/p>\n
cd \/var\/www\/html\/ojs\/<\/span><\/b><\/pre>\n
<\/b>Download the latest archive of OJS from the official\u00a0website<\/a><\/p>\n
sudo wget https:\/\/pkp.sfu.ca\/ojs\/download\/ojs-3.3.0-3.tar.gz<\/span><\/b><\/pre>\n
Extract the archive<\/p>\n
sudo tar -xvzf ojs-3.3.0-3.tar.gz<\/span><\/b><\/pre>\n
Navigate to one folder back<\/p>\n
cd ..<\/span><\/b><\/b><\/pre>\n
Move entire directories and hidden files to the ojs directory<\/p>\n
sudo mv \/var\/www\/html\/ojs\/ojs-3.3.0-3\/* \/var\/www\/html\/ojs\/<\/span><\/b><\/pre>\n
Provide write permission to the following directories and file<\/p>\n
cd \/ojs\r\n\r\nsudo chown -R www-data config.inc.php public\/ cache\/<\/span><\/b><\/pre>\n
Navigate to\u00a0\/var\/www\u00a0<\/b>directory and create a directory for uploading files and give appropriate permission<\/p>\n
cd \/var\/www\r\n\r\n<\/b><\/span><\/b>sudo mkdir files\r\n\r\nsudo chmod -R 777 files\/<\/span><\/b><\/pre>\n
Create a virtual host<\/a>, if you are mapping with the domain then create a database, user, and password<\/p>\n
sudo mysql -uroot -p<\/span><\/b>\u00a0 (provide mysql root password)\r\n\r\ncreate database ojs;\r\ngrant all privileges on ojs.* to 'ojs'@'localhost' identified by 'ojs123';\r\nflush privileges;\r\nquit;<\/span><\/b><\/pre>\n
Restart apache<\/p>\n
sudo systemctl reload apache2 && sudo systemctl restart apache2<\/span><\/b><\/pre>\n
It is ready now, visit<\/p>\n
127.0.1.1\/ojs<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0yourdomain.com<\/a><\/p>\n
